July 29, 1991 – September 24, 2016
Thomas Ryan ("Tom") McCue (IABE '15), a global banking and brokerage consultant who resided in Chicago, entered the Chapter Eternal on Saturday, September 24, 2016, following a tragic accident. He was age 25.
McCue was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 29, 1991 to Mark and Ki McCue. He had an older brother Dan.
He attended the University of Iowa and pledged the Iowa Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was initiated into the fraternity on November 30, 2010. A student athlete, McCue was active in the Chapter and played for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes Hockey team, commonly called the "IceHawks".
"Tom touched the hearts of every single person around him. He was there for people (including myself) that needed a friend. He was absolutely hysterical and there is nobody that can replace the love and humor he brought to our friendship," said Nick Olson (IABE '13). "We lived together through the bad and the good. We played together through the bad and the good on ice. I was lucky enough to have been a classmate, roommate, teammate but most importantly, Tom's friend."
After graduating the University of Iowa with a degree in finance, McCue began his career as a portfolio management intern before becoming a financial analyst and brokerage consultant with FactSet Research Systems.
"Tom had an unimaginable impact on my life that is going to continue until I take my last breath on this planet. When that happens, I will make sure to pass the torch on to someone else to make sure Tom's spirit and legacy live on for eternity," said Noah Mateen (IABE '14).
Tom McCue was known for his zest for life, kindness and generosity to all, and an amazing sense of humor. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed sports, especially hockey.
"When a brother enters the Chapter Eternal, it is always a sad and somber occasion -- all the more so when he dies so young and so full of promise," said Iowa Beta Alumni Association president Marc Rosenow (IABE '86). "But we also celebrate his life and the incredible mark he made on so many people. Brother Tom McCue is remembered by his fraternity brothers as an inspiring leader and dear friend who was always willing to help in a time of need. He was the consummate True Gentleman.
"On behalf of all Iowa Beta alumni, we send our deepest condolences to his family, fraternity brothers and friends. He will be deeply missed."
Tom McCue is survived by his parents, Mark and Ki McCue, and his brother, Dan. He had countless friends and extended family members.
“May the memory of his good deeds and the example of his noble life ever abide with us as a lasting heritage throughout all succeeding generations.”
