Donald C. Harris (IABE '57)
August 3, 1935 - March 7, 2014
Donald C. Harris (IABE ’57), of Hackensack, Minnesota, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Harris, 78, was born in Ames, Iowa, and attended Iowa State University before transferring to the University of Iowa. He pledged the Iowa Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and was initiated into the fraternity on December 5, 1954. He received SAE badge number 90471.
After a long career with the 3M Company in sales and marketing with the Traffic Control Materials Division, Harris retired and enjoyed living on Ten Mile Lake and spending the winter months in Florida.
Harris was very active in Hope Lutheran Church and in the community. He was a strong supporter of the Hackensack Lions, American Legion Post 202, the Ten Mile Lake Association and a member of the Tianna Country Club.
He organized and led a course for kids from 12 years of age and older in watercraft safety. He loved playing golf and working on his many projects in his garage workshop.
"We are saddened to learn of the death of Brother Donald Harris," said Marc Rosenow (IABE '86), president of the Iowa Beta Alumni Association. "Donald is remembered by his fraternity brothers as a kind and caring man who truly embodied the best virtues of SAE. We send our deepest condolences to his family."
Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ann; daughters Lee (Mark) Sand, Beth (Butch) Greeninger and Amy (Jason) Affeldt; and grandchildren Matt Sand, Scott (Megan) Sand, Greg Sand, TJ Greeninger, Pete Greeninger, Kelly Greeninger, Jeff Greeninger, Sean Wright, Patrick Wright and Raven Affedlt; and brother Phil (Kathy) Harris.
